Colours may differ due to any flash used. A fabulous and very well made ROMAN or CELTIC bronze mount fitting …be assured this is period and could be Celtic or Roman … as you can see its bronze and has been DUG UP .. not sure if it was an eyes only find or a metal detector find. It is really well modelled of the front HALF of a DOG .. or similar sort of beast.. although it has NO teeth .. small ears and mouth open. .. two front legs.. looking with a loope you can just see ” chain ring ” marks near the collar part ..depicting a collar on the animal. The back is a SPIKE .. and has Do a google search for these sort of fittings.. often associated with helmets – furniture – buckets etc.. the list is endless and I am sure the Roman’s & Celt’s had many items in everyday use with little objects like this attached. It has green patina and in places this is a differant colour. A really fabulous antiquity . It is approx 5.5cm long from spike to nose end.. the spike is nearly 2.5cm long.. so the ANIMAL half body would stick out 3cm .. the legs are 2cm long free standing from the body and including the body its just over 3.5cm long x 16mm at the widest body part….left hand leg is slightly bent. It has done well to survive ..as alot of this sort of item would have been lost forever or melted down as the years progressed. An ideal item for the researcher into Ancient Art. Please see close up pictures for more detail. The item(s) are shown next to an English 1 penny which is 20mm dia for scale.
