ANTIQUE 18TH MULTI RELIC RELIQUARY CROSS CRUCIFIX MONASTERY ART WORK FIGURE GIFT What you’re looking at is a beautifully intricate relic cross, most likely a devotional object used for personal prayer or veneration, with remarkable historical and spiritual significance. This wooden cross, meticulously carved, features the figure of Jesus Christ on the front in a traditional crucifixion scene, along with other religious symbols skillfully etched on the back. I can see intricate religious symbols and elements, each telling a story rooted deeply in Christian tradition. At the top, there’s a bird, possibly a dove, representing the Holy Spirit. Below it, you’ll notice symbols of the Passion of Christ, including what looks like a cross, spears, and possibly a crown of thorns. These are traditional symbols representing Christ’s suffering during his crucifixion. At the very bottom, there appears to be a figure, perhaps a saint or a cloaked figure in mourning, signifying devotion or grief over Christ’s sacrifice. Upon opening the back panel of the cross, we discovered something extraordinary: the cross contains relics—fragments of fabric or other material associated with specific saints, wrapped and preserved within the cavity. These relics are marked with small pieces of parchment bearing the names of saints: S. Laureali M., likely referring to Saint Laurus (Saint Laurentius), a Christian martyr. S. I wasn’t able to fully decipher the names of all the saints due to the partial visibility of the text fragments.
