GODFREY VESELY ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING ON CANVAS SIGNED BOTTOM RIGHT AND DATED 1959 CONDITION: CANVAS IN GOOD SHAPE MINOR WEAR. FRAME HAS PAINT LOSS AND CHIPS THROUGHOUT. CANVAS 24 BY 30 INCHES FRAME 29 1/4 BY 35 INCHES A plein-air desert and landscape painter of California, Utah, and Arizona, Godfrey Vesely was born in Czechoslovakia and came to the United States as a child. By 1919, he was in California where he, who was primarily self taught, studied art briefly with Hanson Puthuff and Conrad Richter. During the 1920s and 30s, he lived in Grass Valley and Long Beach and painted in the neighboring state of Arizona.He exhibited primarily in Long Beach and was a member there of the Art Association as well as in Grass Valley. His work can be found in the National Hotel in Nevada City, California, and the California State Library at Grass Valley. He died in Orange County, California.Memberships include the Long Beach Art Association and the Spectrum ClubSource:Edan Hughes, Artists in California, 1786-1940Peter Hastings Falk, Editor, Who Was Who in American Art Born in Czechoslovakia on Jan. 30, 1886. Vesely came to the U.S. as a child and moved to California in 1919. During the 1920s and 1930s he was a resident of Long Beach as well as Grass Valley. Primarily a self-taught painter, he studied briefly with Puthuff and Richter. He specialized in desert landscapes of Utah, California, and Arizona. Vesely died in Long Beach on Jan. 17, 1966.
