There is damage to both the HC book and the slipcase. The PB book has some staining. The HC book has damage to the bottom front cover and spine. Part of the cover is missing. Wear and color loss on all corners. Has a personal library bookplate. Some pages are loose from the spine but are still attached to the binding with thread. Some of the stuff that look like damage is actually the reproduction of the painting on the cover and HC book. BUT, there IS a lot of wear and damage to the outside of all pieces. Slipcase has damage on all corners and a chunk on the spine. Also, a horribly painted (looks like fingernail polish!) name or design on the bottom. BUT…..IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR THIS AMAZING BOOK AT A REASONABLE PRICE, THIS IS IT. MEDIA MAIL – SLOWER BUT CHEAPER. The St. Petersburg Muraqqa is the only complete facsimile of an Indian/Persian miniature album available to the general public. The quality of the plates are top-notch: bright-colored with breathtaking details, completed with gold prints. Majority of the plates are Mughal miniatures and calligraphy, they are among the best reproduced Mughal paintings. Further more, the album includes miniatures from the Isfahan school of Iran which are rare in publications and visually dazzling.The slipcase contains two books, one is the complete facsimile of the album (hardcover), the other is introduction and analysis in English (paperback).The album of Indian and Persian miniatures known as the “St. Petersburg Muraqqa” is a unique collection of art created in the course of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries by 17 artists of the Mughal and Deccan schools of India, and the Isfahan school of Iran. Each leaf is added with specimens of Persian calligraphy by the most celebrated master of nastaliq style Mir ‘Iamd al-Hasani of Qazvin (1554-1615). The Muraqqa was assembled mainly of the works looted by Nadir Shah during his invasion in India in 1739. It was kept like a precious jewel in Iran, in the Shah’s library and was purchased in Tehran in 1910 for the Russian emperor Nicholas II. Today it is preserved in the collection of the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts in St. Petersburg. The album consists of 98 folia sized 33×47.5 cm. Each folio is decorated with miniatures on a variety of topics&column; among them are scenes of court life, hunt and battle, royal portraits, images of saints, species of flora and fauna.
